Courtney Platt

An eclectic photographer, Courtney shoots: weddings; annual reports; commercial advertising; location portraiture; aerial; architecture; table top product; nature and underwater photography. Decorative prints of his most aesthetic images have been used in new hotels, banks, commercial buildings and private homes.

The most recent of five assignments for National Geographic Magazine was a 2500 year old shipwreck in Turkey expected to be published sometime in 2002. His assignment and stock images have illustrated numerous publications including: National Geographic (Down the Cayman Wall", Nov. 1988), National Geographic World. Skin Diver, Scuba Times, Ocean Realm, Sport Diver, Sea Frontiers, Time, Forbes, numerous Cayman publications and several books.

Local clients have included: Cayman National Bank, Bank of Butterfield, CIBC, Cable and Wireless, Hyatt Regency, Motorola, Flowers and Sons, Pinnacle Productions, Media Works, BB+P, Graffix, Tower Marketing, CITN, most of the realtors, Ugland, Crighton, Hammer, Kirkconnell, numerous restaurants, hotels, condominiums, jewelers and more.

A seasoned professional, Courtney Platt has been photographing underwater since 1976 and above water since 1983. His work has won numerous awards. Living in Grand Cayman since 1983 he piloted deep diving submersibles to 1000 feet for Atlantis Adventures from 1986-1988 and again, very part-time, from 1996 to present. He still pilots the subs just for the fun of it. This is currently the only place in the world that the general public has easy access to this rare and valuable equipment. Don't be misled, however, he has been a full-time freelance photographer for Island Images from 1988 to present and photography will always be his bread and butter. The sub is just a giant underwater camera housing that he uses to capture otherwise unattainable images beyond the limits of scuba.

His own publication, "Colorful Cayman" should be on the shelves in most of Cayman's souvenir stores by mid summer, 2001.
